Top Reasons Cheer Is A Sport

Physical Exertion

  • Cheer teams incorporate elements of
            dance,
            tumbling
            gymnastics
            stunting to create performance routines

"Stunting"  involves cheerleaders sitting, standing or squatting on others,
These performance elements require strength, stamina, balance and timing, all clear athletic qualities.

Training

For cheerleaders to obtain and maintain athletic qualities, competitive cheerleaders train as hard as any other athlete.
  •  cheerleaders spend as much time practicing  in other varsity sports.
  •  almost everyday cheerleaders train and dedicate their time

Coaching

Competitive cheerleading is directed by a coach just like other team sports
 The coach will
    :direct the routines
     supervise training
motivate their team to compete at their highest level.

Coaches are trained in supervising stunting and safety

Competition

  • For an activity to be considered a sport, it must involve competition against others

In competitive cheerleading, squads compete against each other and are evaluated according to a standardized set of rules.

Eventhough, there is no one overarching governing body or set of rules for the sport of cheerleading; instead there are several independent organizations that sponsor their own championship tournament.
